The Spelman Class of 1975 Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in May 2010 by class members to pay tribute to deceased class members and provide financial assistance to Spelman College students. It was later endowed on June 30, 2018. Over time our initial investment increased and once sufficient funds were available to meet our criteria, we have given seven (7) scholarships to deserving students.
Because of our desire to better assist our Spelman sisters the class approved an amendment in 2022 which states that the income from the endowment be used to increase the scholarship awards to two (2) annual scholarships up to $10,000 each.
The criteria for selection are as follows:
Classification: Recipient(s) will be Junior or Senior students
GPA: Recipient(s) will have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0
Need: Recipient (s) will have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Services
Community Service: Recipient (s) will commit to completing and documenting a minimum of 48 hours of community service to be monitored by the Spelman College Office of Community Service
Extra-curricular Activities: Recipient(s) will have demonstrated participation in extra-curricular activities as determined by the program administrator for the scholarship
It is through this scholarship that we remember our deceased classmates and provide financial assistance to our Spelman sisters. We are all “forever bound”.
